TDAC is an arrival record, not a visa decision

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card, or TDAC, is the Immigration Bureau's online arrival form replacing the traditional paper arrival card. The official manual expressly states that it is not a visa. Travellers therefore need to check the immigration permission or entry basis for their trip separately. Completing TDAC does not establish eligibility for visa-free entry, extend a stay or authorise work. Begin with two distinct questions: what permits the traveller to seek entry, and what arrival information must be submitted. Keeping those questions separate prevents a confirmation email from being mistaken for a visa approval or a guarantee of admission.

Use the official free service

The official TDAC website identifies the service as having no fee. Access it through the Immigration Bureau's government domain and check the address before entering passport information. A commercial intermediary may offer help, but a paid website should not be mistaken for the government form. Travellers should know where their personal information is being sent and retain the actual submission result. If someone else completes the form, review the details yourself before relying on it. The task involves sensitive identity and travel information, so the simplest useful precaution is to use the official channel and avoid unnecessary sharing through unfamiliar websites.

Prepare the information before opening the form

Have the passport, travel booking, Thai accommodation details and relevant health-declaration information available. The official manual identifies these as the main information groups. Compare the arrival date with the local date in Thailand, especially for overnight flights or journeys crossing time zones. Know the actual port and mode of entry rather than selecting an airport simply because it is familiar. If the itinerary includes several accommodation locations, follow the form's instructions for the required address. Preparing these details in advance reduces guesswork and makes it easier to complete the form accurately within the official submission window before arrival.

Review automated passport reading carefully

The system can retrieve information from the passport's machine-readable zone, but the manual tells users to recheck the result. Inspect names, dates and nationality rather than assuming automation cannot make mistakes. Use the passport that will actually be presented for the journey. If a family member has renewed a passport, avoid copying details from an old booking or saved profile without checking. A correct travel reservation does not automatically ensure a correct arrival form. This small review is particularly important for names containing multiple elements, because an unnoticed error can be more difficult to correct once the submission is complete.

A group submission still contains individual travellers

The official system supports group submission, which can make a family or shared itinerary easier to manage. Check every person's passport and personal information separately before reusing common travel or accommodation details. A child is not merely an attachment to an adult's record. Confirm that no traveller has been omitted or duplicated and that the email recipient can provide each person with the relevant confirmation. Where members of a group arrive on different flights or dates, ensure the submitted itinerary reflects those differences. Administrative convenience should not lead to treating a group booking as evidence that everyone's immigration and travel circumstances are identical.

Changes should be handled through the official update instructions

The TDAC manual describes an update function for submitted information before travel, but it also identifies identity fields that cannot be edited through that function. If an error occurs, consult the current instructions for the specific field rather than repeatedly changing unrelated details or assuming every correction is available. A changed flight, accommodation plan or arrival date should be reviewed before departure. Keep the latest confirmation clearly distinguished from an earlier version. If another person submitted the form, obtain the reference needed to access the record. The objective is that the information used for arrival reflects the actual journey, not an itinerary that was abandoned after the original submission.

Keep confirmation accessible without relying on airport connectivity

After submission, obtain the confirmation through the official process and check that it corresponds to the correct traveller and trip. Save an accessible copy and follow the manual's options for downloading or printing where useful. A phone with an empty battery or an unavailable email account can make a simple document check unnecessarily stressful. Keep the passport and any required visa evidence available separately. The TDAC confirmation belongs in the travel folder, but it should not replace the other documents that establish the purpose and basis of entry. Reviewing the whole folder before departure is more reliable than searching through several message threads at check-in.

Use arrival preparation to check the wider immigration calendar

A hypothetical family preparing TDAC should also review passport validity, each person's visa or entry basis, accommodation and onward plans. After arrival, record the stay actually granted and any relevant reporting or extension tasks. TDAC submission does not complete those later procedures automatically. For a long-stay resident returning from travel, the arrival form should be handled alongside the separate review of residence and re-entry permission. This approach keeps a straightforward online form in its proper place: an accurate declaration supporting the arrival process, connected with but distinct from the legal permission and later obligations governing the traveller's stay in Thailand.
